Using Nikon Instruments in Metric

Last Updated 01/03/02

When using the Nikon gun in metric mode, you may see distances which are off by a factor of 10. To verify this, go into the Stake program, switch to the RAW screen, and take a shot with the instrument. Verify the information on the 48 display against the information on the instrument display.

Nikon Topgun series instruments transfer the slope distance without a decimal point in the data. For example, a distance of 321.88 feet is transferred to the HP48 as "321880" and the HP must convert this to the correct distance. Unfortunately, when configured for metric, some models require that the implied decimal point be inserted in a different position.

If you encounter this problem with your instrument, you can install this additional total station driver to correct the problem.

Use the following procedure to load the driver (similar to loading advanced programs):

Select the Other driver in Config to work on metric projects. Use the regular Nikon driver when the instrument is configured for feet.

Download Nikon metric driver now.
